Christmas time, lo-fi time

Whenever I’m visiting my family, it’s a bit like a trip back in time. Not only in terms of social relationships. But also in terms of how I would use technology: Though travelling with a backpack full of tech, upon arrival I’m in a no-broadband zone. Having only a slow dial-up connection and no useful way to hook up my own laptop, even checking email briefly becomes quite a challenge. Not to even mention Flickr: Digital photos are being stacked up on memory cards, my iPod is craving for the latest podcasts.

So while I’m getting my hopes up that some freifunk or FON network will pop up soon, it’s a good time to slow down a little, spend some quality time with the family, and read a good book. Like this one, by Jasper Fforde.
