Danah Boyd: Social media users have different priorities depending on their life stages
April 19, 2007 | By Peter Bihr |
At ETech 2007, Danah Boyd gave a great talk about social media, and how different people use it very differently. So if you’re into social network design or just interested in social media, keep in mind that different stages in life might bring different priorities:
With these limitations in mind, let’s go stereotyping. I want to address four key life stages that i think are relevant to folks interested in social media: 1) Identity formation and role-seeking (aka youth) 2) Integration and coupling (aka 20somethings) 3) Societal contribution (aka “adults”) 4) Reflection and storytelling (aka retirees)
The transcript is available on Danah’s website. Thanks!
