Dopplr invites: Great social network for frequent travelers

dopplr.com

Amidst the generic we’re-your-home-no-matter-what social networking sites, there’s a number of very specialized social networks as well. One of them which I find strangely soothing & nice is Dopplr. What does it do, and who’s it for?

If you travel more than five times a year and have friends who do as well, then Dopplr is for you. How does Dopplr work? It lets you share your future travel plans with a group of trusted fellow travellers whom you have chosen. It also reminds you of friends and colleagues who live in the cities you’re planning to visit.

And that’s it, really: You tell your friends on Dopplr where you’re going to be, and Dopplr tells you where they are, or rather: When your friends are close enough for meeting up. No more, no less. Smooth and easy. (Not that I really travel that much right now.)

Currently Dopplr is still in private closed beta, but they’re speeding up growth. If you want to join in, drop me a line (peter (at) thewavingcat.com). I’ve still got invites.

(If you’re already on dopplr.com, why not say hi?)

Hi Maira,

not so sure. From what I’ve seen, virb.com looks awesome. It’s just beautiful, and it gives you full control about all your stuff. (Yup, that includes privacy and layout as well.)
